I have participated in the Purebred Dog Tent now for about 10 years. The tent showcases various purebred dogs from local breed clubs. The fair runs for 12 days, with the tent open from 9am to 6pm. Each day we have the Parade of Breeds and various demos.
Breed groups that have participated are; Suncoast Bull Dog Friends, Bonjon Shepherd Ranch, English Shepherd Club, Inc., National Association of Louisiana Catahoulas, Tampa Bay Beagle Club, GREAT (Greyhound Rescue and Adoption of Tampa), Southeastern Guide Dogs, Inc., Tampa Bay Area Shetland Sheep Dog Club, Siberian Husky Club of Tampa Bay, Tampa Bay Poodle Club, Inc., Central Florida Golden Club, Tampa Bay Kennel Club, Tampa Bay Terrier Club, Imperial Polk Obedience Club, Dog Training Club of Tampa, Inc., Wagin' Train Agility, Clearwater Cocker Spaniel Club, and American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Central Florida.
Lots of fun is had each year, showing off our dogs. Not all of our dogs are "breed quality," but we do let people know that loving your pet is the important thing. The Parade of Rescue dogs was one of the neat things I started 2 years ago. This was my way of allowing our breed clubs to recognize adopters of rescue dogs. These special people bring their rescue dogs to the fair and take part in a parade. As they come by, I read about each dog's story. Then the owner's get a pretty fair rosette and a certificate of recognition! We have extra crates in the tent to provide the owners a safe place for their dogs, so that they can go play at the fair while we babysit their dogs.
